Tell me guys, what do you guys do about king fishers? I solved the herons so far. I bought a decoy from bass pro shop and put it on my 3 acre pond and they haven't been back. the kingfishers are something else now

I have one small one who comes every day and eats maybe 200, 1" long fish a month, not much of a dent in the tilapia spawn. So he is now part of the whole system, unlike the heron who are targets. 
1/4 & 3/4 acre ponds. A thousand miles from no where and there is no place I want to be...

rad, that is an AWESOME pic....great job!
we have a resident belted KF, my take is like rad's, he's part of the system and doesnt really dent the fish population IME.
i like watching them hunt.
i think of him as my little assistant, just another free and easy way to help control overpopulation however small the contribution.

Me too. I get rid of the beavers and otters and yotes and geese etc but I leave the kingfisher , ducks and the one GB heron alone. They don't do any harm to a 16 acre pond surrounded by big woods. I have enough RES to take care of any snails/grubs that they may bring in.
Rad that is a G R E A T pic !! He rules from atop the fake heron.

Ah shucks why do I always have to knock sense into you guys? Just kidding!
Conversely in my very small production ponds a Kingfisher can do considerable harm, and they are part of the life cycle of the black grub. One of my two niche customers do not what black spots on their fish.
That said I've only seen one a couple of times as it seems to be just passing through.

I'll go to my room now. Don't feel too bad. I saw the plastic (flamingos), but NOT the Kingfisher.

I didnt know plastic flamingos would run off herons.If it really works Ill be getting some pronto

the decoy I got from bass pro was a heron decoy. It looks so real, even looking through my b-glasses and so far has worked
