for no reasons other than fond memories of crappie fishing with my father from dilapidated docks, I have built a dock and plan on planting black crappie this week. ~1 acre pond, put in 2 pounds of fathead minnoes, about 300 various bluegill and 50 read ear last summer. I have no memory of bass fishing. and at 57, I am not certain that I care.
obviously, I am a newbie. However, while I get a startled look when I swear off large mouth bass, the local USDA NRCS agent(?, official?, ?) indicates that this is a workable choice.
Anyone ever heard of a pond with only crappie stocked as a predator and then threadfin, fathead ,freshwater shrimp, small frogs. I was thinking it would be neat to try and lett all the bait have the pond to spawn for almost a year to reproduce before adding the crappie.
