At least here in North Florida, Spring is in the air. The winter has been warm so far & the pond temperature is 67. I noticed a few LMB inspecting the spawning areas that I created for them. They are just looking, the hormones are not elevated enough for them to do any more than look. Perhaps another 4-6 weeks.

I am happy that I took the time to put in the limestone & structure. In the past 18 years I have only very rarely seen LMB looking for an spot to spawn.

More like 4-6 months here...I hate winter more and more every year.

The pond thawed out over the weekend, so there was a false sense of spring. This morning, when I walked out to the car in the dark, the ground was all white. It was 21 degrees. It took me 30 minutes to go the first 10 miles because the light snow turned to black ice on the roads. I think I could hear the ground hog snoring.

I checked my temp the other day and the water was 58. I wonder if my temp gage is off that much. I live on the westside so it does get a little colder here than in some parts of town.

Still very much winter around here, it's begining to look like our ice fishing season is going to last at least another 4 weeks around here.

Warm weather done here for a while! It's about 15, snow flurries, and 25 mph wind. No spring in sight yet.

Yeah, over here in SE Iowa...low 20's, bit of snow tonight, better chance for major snow tomorrow night. HIGH temps of 6F both Sat and Sunday. Probably stay inside and make some more jelly.

JE and Letsrodeo a couple articles note LMB spawning in Fla (depending on where) in all mths except Aug , Sept and Oct. IIRC. Water temps support spawning in winter in some locations. Documented spawns in 9 mths.

Some trees budding in Cowtown. Fish are still wearing longhandles.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
