The BarO pond is supplying Tilapia filets to the turkey buzzards, crows and hawks today. The menu has about 10-15 two - three pounders floating to shore. We should have some other critters join the feast after dark.

We just got back from 4 days in south Texas and I took the water temp last night......it was 50 degrees. Knew it shouldn't be long and it wasn't. They survived two weeks longer than the prior 2 years.

Hey even nature deserves a free lunch now and then. \:\)

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanksgiving, BarO could have talked me into it. But nobody tries to force me to eat turkey at Christmas.

BarO

Where did you buy your Tilapia from? What did they cost? When are you going to buy more for next year?

Thanks,
Eddie

I don't know if this is related but it was 30 degrees here today with 6 inches of new snow. The opossums were feasting on cat food when we returned from Christmas festivities.

Aren't opossums supposed to hibernate?

It's realtively mild here. Cold enough for ice but I believe the ice on the big lakes is too thin. It's driving the ice fisherman crazy. Supposed to rain Friday.

99 percent of the snow from our previous snow storm has melted.

It's amazing how fast Turkey Vultures will clean up something. I had a large dead catfish in the floating in the pond and flung it up on shore. The Turkey Vultures went to work on it almost immediately and withing 2-3 hours it was gone - not even any bones left. The next day I was taking a break next to the pond just soaking up the sun and looked up and had two Vultures in the sky above me turning circles and eyeballing me. I felt like that scene in the Monty Python movie I felt compelled to yell "I'm not dead yet."

Remember, the Grim Reaper doesn't care if you ate the fish or not.

Opossums do hibernate.

On warm days if there is the smell of food in the air, they will come out to eat. They are really slow and may be sleep-eating. I don't know for sure as they are not very communicative in the winter.
