I have a close neighbor who had a 1/2 acre pond with nothing but HBG in it. The adults never seemed to be nippers, but they reproduced like crazy, and the offspring could be quite annoying to his grandkids.
The pond now has 28 smallmouth between 8 and 19 inches, and 25 muskies, between 8-12 inches. I put the SMB in this summer, adding over several weeks as I caught them out of a nearby creek; by October the number of nipper-sized GSF was way down. I suspect the muskies will finish them off, and the pond will be kid-friendly again [unless of course the muskies bite the kids.....well, you know what happens when someone makes something idiot-proof----someone else invents a better idiot!]
Anyway, all of this is to say that I don't thing the GSF will be a problem, as long as you have a good predator base to control their reproduction.
