Well looks like winter finaaly came a few weeks ago and i don't think it is going away till spring. i think i may end up losing some fish this winter. The pond was down about 3 feet because there was no rain this simmer or fall so there is only about 5-6ft in the deepest parts . I was hoping it would warm up so some the snow would melt and fill up the pond but i don't think thas going to happen now. The pond has been like this for about 3 weeks now. I feel for you.... I am in the same boat. I may lose some or all this year unless we get a magic thaw for a week and some of this pile of snow turns into water for me.
Some questions for you...
What kind of fish do you have?
How thick does your ice normally get?
Do you keep the snow off for hockey all winter long?
Aeration 24/7?

Damone: Sorry to hear about your fears, but it might not be as bad as you expect. First winter for my newest pond, had less than 3 feet of water before she froze. Had already stocked tons of FHM and RES...had to pretty near freeze to the bottom, but they seemed to survive.
Maybe punch a few holes now and then, or sweep some snow off. Doesn't take all that much sunlight for plankton to do it's oxygen "thing".

UNFORTUANLTY I DON'T LIVE THERE. I DO RUN AN AIRATOR ON A TIMER . IT RUNS ABOUT 8 HOURS A DAY AND SHUTS OFF FOR THE NIGHT. I USUALLY RUN A SUMP PUMP ALSO WHICH BREAKS OPEN A HOLE IN EVEN WHEN ITS REAL COLD. THE AIRATOR RUNS BUT DOSEN'T BREAK OPEN THE ICE WHEN IT STAYS BELOW -0 FOR A WEEK OR SO. BUT I COULDN'T HOOK IT UP BECAUSE THE WATER WAS SO LOW, THE TOP OF THE SUMP PUMP WAS OUT OF THE WATER.
WE HAVE BLUEGILL, BLACK CRAPPIE, PERCH, WHITE SUCKERS AND ALOT OF BULLHEAD .
