I have lived 3+ years on our place and hadn't seen a cormorant near my pond until yesterday. Coincidence???? A "water turkey" on "Turkey Day"?

Well, anyway it was swimming near the log on the other side of the pond and wasn't watching where he was going and evidently, collided with one of my newly acquired HSB's, that was practicing his vertical leaps out of the water, and accidently broke his neck.

It is my story and I'm stickin' to it! \:\)

Yeah I heard that was one of the reasons for stocking HSB's.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I assume the HSB had a permit?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

From what I understand, it was an accident. Permits would be in place for any other unexplained happenings. \:\)

I had a cormorant visit my pond here in New England for the first time in early September. The thing was just brazen. We tried to scare it away and it would just dive around and laugh at we feeble men.

When I finally went into the house to bring out my shotgun, THEN it got scared and flew away... \:\(

I did some research on the net, and understand those things are some of the most capable and voracious of fish predators.

The corpse was given a decent funeral ............... it joined the other winged spirits in the GBH burial grounds ...... May we all take a moment ................. before the varmits find the shallow grave.
