I posted some specifics about what I would like to do with the construction of a new 1 acre trout pond in PEI, Canada in this thread...

I originally hoped that I could find an experienced contractor (or even golf course designer/construction company) to help with the project, but so far I have had no luck.

Any recommendations from the region?

I have put Plan B into motion, with the purchase today of "Perfect Pond, Want One?"... and may need to go it alone.

He did not know any contractors currently working on PEI.

He did offer a variety of services (design, management, contractor interview and selection, etc) that may prove to be useful if I am unable to find a local source.

Thought I would contribute here a bit on this topic:

First before finding the right contractor, I would check with Brian Thompson, he is the director of land and environment of PEI and would know about the regulations for pond construction in that province: http://www.gov.pe.ca/phone/index.php3?number=3298

He might even suggest a few reputable names in excavation.
Then you can, in less than an hour call all the contractors listed as excavators on PEI, here is the link: http://yellowpages.ca/search/pv/1/excavation/PE

From my visit last summer, there is not a lot of ponds on this small island, you might find that it is very site specific. good luck!

OK, what or where is a PEI?

I can get this one right without Overton's help.

Prince Edward Island, the smallest of Canada's "Maritime provinces", along with Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland. IIRC, it is the only Maritime province without a portion on the mainland.

Go to Maine and just keep heading up the coast, DD.

PEI is home of potato growing land, so in general it is dry in the summer and the soil drains well.

The soil is a strikingly red, very ancien dirt floors from an era before the dinausores. It remained like that because it was shielded from glacial activities and has been emerging from the ocean since then.

The island was just recently (1999) connected to mainland by the longest bridge in the world; Confederation Bridge. The Canadian Constitution was signed on PEI in 1837. Many names are Scottish, Irish and French as their boats were often wrecked off the shallow shores.

A lot of small ocean inlets connecting to rivers offer good fishing for brook trouts. Its a must see if you travel on the East Coast!

PEI is really pretty in the summer.

Oh.... and Yes, that is frozen ocean.
