Having read a lot of stuff on differant techniques that I might use for controling the level of my not yet constructed 1.3 acre pond, I have come to believe that the best approach for my water source situation would be to let the water out of the pond from the bottom of the pond. I see a lot of info discribing the concept, and I like the idea especialy considering that I my end up with some salt brine from nearby paved roads which are salted in the winter. ie salt brine is denser than fresh water and sinks to the bottom of any fresh water body. It is diferencieated by a "chem-cline" in calm lakes.

What I don't know is how to construct the bottom feed plumbing system. Hoping some of you who have some experiance with such a system, can give me some details, like what the bottom inlet design and components should be? How far above the bottom? Should the line to the surface be burried in the side of the pond wall? Filter screens? How to service it if it gets pluged up or broaken? etc. How well does this kind of system realy work I wonder?

Mike ther has been a lot of information posted on this subject but right now archival search is very unkind to me to say the least.

My preference, and in use on our ponds, is a siphon spillway system that has peformed very well the past year when we finally got some rain in Texas.
