Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Trees and reforesting

Anyone getting ready to buy trees? My reforesting project is mostly done, but I'm still planning to order some oaks and pines in a couple weeks for late February/early March planting. Probably shortleaf and loblolly pines and a variety of oaks.

I've planted around 1500 trees the last couple years to reforest several acres, planting 25 or so native species.

You and Matt Clark are the tree-plantin' nuts. I see maybe a couple hundred this coming spring as part of the WHIP project, but that's about it.
What became of your deck project?

Hey Brettski ... I'm married with 4 kids under 10 y/o and soccer & Boy Scout season just ended, barely time to turn the computer on

The dock is done except for some railings, but I'm hesitant to work on it any more since the pond may be a failure. We had a horrible drought here this Summer and the pond went dry after being nearly full in January. It has a very slow leak and not enough runoff ... bad combo. I'm going to divert more runoff to it and fill in a shallow end of it to reduce volume. If the pond does better next Spring I'll finish the deck ... if not I'll fill in the pond and disassemble and move the deck to the new pond I plan to build. It's all put together with screws so disassembly is do-able. The new pond area gets much more runoff and appears to have better soil, but I would have preferred not to dig a pond in this spot for aesthetic reasons. I'm going to put a liner in the little 40x40 fathead pond soon, it never held water to start with.

The tree fort/family picnic shelter/deer stand? is done except for putting the roof on. I have had the roofing in the barn for months but have not had time to put it on. That is one project that worked out really good.
