Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations New Aquarium for indoor fun

I moved my little bass into a bigger 55 gallon tank and moved them inside so I can stop battling algae blooms. Here's thei new home. I might add a couple of more sunfish. Right now I have 2 5 inch bass and a 4 inch longear and a 3 inch le hybrid. What should I add to make things interesting???

I would add some rocks and plants Keith, and possibly an old boot or beer can.

Okay, I would definitely put in a nice thick tree branch with a "snagged" lure. Better yet make it a plain hook and line with a bobber attached that floats at the surface.

Looks like some goldfish are gonna have their numbers come up real soon now.

At Petco, with their card it was only $160 for the tank, lighted hoods, and 60 gallon filtration system. The tank was about $100 by its self and then if I would have gone up to a 75 gallon setup it would have been $200 for tank and lights, no filter. The 55 seemed like a good deal and for a aquarium, it's 4ft long and 20 or so inches high so it's good size. I'm going to add one more lesf. The bass and sunfish look great under flourecent lights!!! The goldfish numbers are down considerably thismorning:)50 went in yesterday at 12 cents a pop. I think any pondguy would love to have a setup like this! The bass seem kinda intelligent and each have theior own personality.

I believe that 55's are the best and most popular all-around tanks.

That makes me wonder what they look like under black light (UV).

Those set ups are a lot of fun. Try turning off the lights - wait a few mins. - then shine a flashlight on them intermittently. Watch their reaction and color changes. Then -same set up and use a laser pointer (red dot). Then use a small crappie jig with no hook tied on a thread .

During my employment at Sea World in the Aquarium Dept. we added fiber optics in the Pine Cone Fish Tank.

I want to do this same thing but scale down a dock and put in a model boat and miniture Fish Attraction devises and of course one of our scaled down aeraton systems!

Go with a blue flourescent light from the acquarium store. They cost about three times as much as a the standard white tubes, but they really enhance the colors of the fish. I like one blue and one white in my 55 gallon tank.

No, that was over 20 years ago.

As for the light tubes, the "blue flourescent" that Schroeder is describing is a Atinic Blue bulb. It replicates the blue spectrum of the sun. Thats okay but it may speed up algae production on the glass. They do look cool though.

Most aquarist use them for coral growth and display.
