Got a call today from the township zoning officer. Apparently a neighbor called her about all of the recent "earth moving activity". The zoning officer pointed out that I needed an "erosion and sediment control plan" for this. I politely explained that the "activity" was related to the pond renovation and I received all of the necessary permits almost 2 years ago from the Conservation District. She forgot that I had called her about it back then to make sure it was OK. She was satisfied.

I'd love to know who called. My brother-in-law suggested I put up a sign saying: "Future site of apartment towers - now accepting HUD applications only".

I know I'm an "outsider" (I live 25 miles away and won't be moving there for 3 years) but a buyer looking at the property before me wanted to put up 17 houses. They should be glad I'm there.

I'm done venting.

Other thought provoking signs:

*Future home of Joe's 24 hour Truck Stop and Casino

*Future home of Whirligig Wind Farm

*Future Home of X-Enviro Toxic Waste Storage

Or just put out the word that the next time someone complains, you are going to sell to a mobile home park developer.

When our horse barn (72' x 136') was under construction, the developer putting in the subdivision next door came flying on to the property one day and demanded to know just what we thought we were going to put in that big barn. Without batting an eyelash, my wife cooly replied "Three-quarters of a million chickens. But this is just the first chicken barn - the rest are going over there, closer to the property line."

Theo your spouse sounds like a real gem. That developer was probably on the phone with his lawyer before he reached the end of your driveway.

Newcomers or homesteads, I don't think causing trouble for neighbors exclusive. People just have a way of annoying each other.

How about:
Future human sludge treatment site or
Piggly Wiggly Pork Production Superfarm site

Just speak loudly while pretending to talk on your cell phone about it while in the locals' hangout. You'll probably have messages on your answering machine by the time you get home.

I wish I could post what I told a pugnacious, hates outsiders, type neighbor when he jutted out his jaw and asked just what plans I had for my newly acquired property. However, in the interest of keeping this clean and politically correct, I can't.

BTW, it was on some property I got three years that adjoined my original place. I had owned land in that area a lot longer than he had. However, I'm not from "around hyar".

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Now that's funny! Our neighbor puts treated human sludge/waste on his fields as fertilizer, last year they dumped 4 truckloads along the property line within 120 yard of the house.

This year they are dumping it much closer to his house. \:D

All the Brettski Stooges threads are classic even if they are soon overrun with quasi-humor. \:D :p

RobA,

I’m not the vindictive type (ok maybe a little) but I agree that some form of retaliation and amusement is the correct protocol in your case.

You should erect sign bearing the announcement of a future Superconducting Supercollider or some such. Maybe post your permits on it just for affect. It should be outlandish enough to make your nosy neighbor look like a complete ass when they start complaining to other neighbors in the area.

Have fun with it.

Hey Shorty,
you could go "sit over the fence" and add to his waste....To be a good/thoughtful neighbor I mean...

I had a problem with one of my neighbors that has brought the adjoining 16 acres next to my place over a deeded easement. She was a real estate developer that had brought the property to resell. In fact the easement I have to use to get to my place crosses her property. I had a 4'x8'sign made with great big red lettering that says "Hog farm and Dirt Pit Coming Soon" I placed at the end of the easement on my property facing down the easement. That way everybody that came to look at her property for sale would see the sign. Of course I am building on ponds all the time for my own use but who could tell the difference. I wouldn't want to live on dirt pit road.
