We have some type of mice that live on the edges of my pond and are good swimmers. No idea what the species is. I've seen them dive and come up to avade capture so they apparently are adapted to water. Anyway, this morning the dog was really interested in something under the boat which is up on land a little bit. I moved the boat and out comes one of these mice and swims out into the water. The dog is very good at waiting for them to come back ashore and nabs them. Trouble was this time one of my largemouths got it first. That poor thing didn't have a chance! ![laugh \:D](/forums/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif) The dog was puzzled as to how it could go under like that and never come up. Wish I had taken a picture. Anybody ever see this?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Cecil, from the title of this thread I thought that maybe a bass had eaten your dog. Thank goodness your dog is ok.

She's 120 lbs. and can rest her head on the dinner table. Thank you for caring. ![](http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a169/CecilBaird1/icebass015.jpg)

Cecil, I have tossed field mice out into the water for the LMB. I have also bought mouse-looking bass flies at Bass Pro. Good bait for the bigguns.

Ever notice they love to slam frogs too? I think they enjoy it like Great White Sharks and a seal pup. ![laugh \:D](/forums/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif)

I've never seen her swim. She's not a water dog.

She's the best kind -- a mutt! She's a cross between a Collie and a German Shepard the best we can tell. (Her rear quarter hair looks like a German Shepard).
I found the mouse floating not long after the bass engulfed it. Must have been too big or not what the bass had in mind

She knows the floating going under means I have a bit. She's also been known to steal a fish when I'm not looking! ![eek](/forums/images/graemlins/default/eek.gif)

Haven't done it with mice but we have 4-5inch grasshoppers and dragon flies that the bass will explode out of the water for.
I've seen a bass come out of the water about 2 feet to catch a dragon fly.

Big ones will also eat baby ducks. My cousin's house is on an old sandpit that has a bunch of channels coming off it with houses. A neighbor was down feeding baby ducks when a large bass came up and ate one of the babies. I had heard of muskies doing that with ducks, but not of LMB doing it with baby ducks.

The mouse probably made himself undesirable to the bass by biting and clawing.

I think if I was grabbed by a bass I'd be doing that too! Here's the pooch on her own couch. (yes I know she's spoiled) Not too happy as she'd rather be out rumping around but it's too hot out there. ![](http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a169/CecilBaird1/fishwee007.jpg)
