I'm in the process of spot planting in my pond, and where it drains out seems to be one place needing specialty plants.
The drain is only 2'wide x 8" deep, but slow moving and the fish have no problem swimming into it. It needs to be left open for the most part so that floating bits/pollen/leaves etc etc have a place to exit, which they do there. I'm using mesh gates etc on it but they get clogged up daily. Not dependable, and bigger holes will let small fish out.
I guess I'm looking for a plant that can allow the floaters through, but will not act as an ideal minnow rearing site, so that few fish will be lost.
Lilies I feel will harbor young fish and possibly block floaters. Equisetum? I don't know how well it will do, afraid it will be impossible to remove if it spreads too fast.
Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.
