I'm in the early stages of construting a new spring fed pond and I've been told by several people that if I back the water up to far (over the spring) it would stop flowing and go under ground.any info? Thanks in advance.

'Struth. A spring may be gravity fed (due to water flowing downhill from a higher elevation) or fed by hydrostatic pressure (water pressure forcing water UP out of the ground). If the latter type, and located in your pond, lowered ground water levels can mean that the flow reverses and pond water flows into the spring.

Yep, I cleaned out a pond that had a spring at the bottom. The drought hit and the water table dropped. I had a dry hole for years when the impounded water went to refill the lower water table.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
