Just installed an aeration system with disc diffusers on my lake. How many inches of muck removal per month or year would I expect? I live in southwest Michigan. Thanks.

Depending on BOD, and turn-over rate, you could see up to 1 foot per year. I just updated the post above with the average reductions on East Twin Lake - throughout 2006 muck levels dropped an average of 0.6 feet at the 6 testing sites with over all reduction averaging 1.9 feet since the aeration systems were installed.

I believe I read it right in your link above that there was NO bacteria added. Is that correct? If so that is a very good average. WOW! good information. The muck in my lake varies in depth. Anywhere from 1 to 5 feet deep. I am also hoping that as the muck begins to reduce then the weeds will reduce too. For two reasons, 1) there will be less organic fertilizer at the bottom and 2) more dissolved oxygen in the water and less carbon dioxide for plants to thrive on. Am I thinking right here? Thanks.

Yes, Bob, you are correct. No bacteria added, just the naturally occuring kind doing its job. There will be less nutrients to feed the plants and you will have a much healthier body of water.
