Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Creating habitat A new toy!!!

So I've built all of my structure from tires and cut up poly drums to bolted together clusters of milk crates. Placed them in easily fishable locations (not that my little puddle creates any navigational hazards!) but I could never be sure which were effective. Fishing over the structures never really proved how the fish use the structure. This seasons turbidity prevented me from snorkeling around the structures and my u/w camera only shows one side of one piece of structure. Well now I have a Humminbird wireless fishfinder and it is a great tool to show how effective your structure is. The unit discerns between small, medium, and large fish but is not species specific. I am assuming that the small and medium returns are bluegills and the larger returns are the bass. I may be all wet with this assumption so all comments are welcome. Anyway it is impressive to see the larger fish tucked in next to the steepest sides of the structure, I assume waiting for a meal. I know Lusk has said it, and I never doubted it, but seeing it on the screen of this little electronic gadget really brings home the point. Next summer I'll be checking out the pieces of tall structure which come up from below the thermocline (parked in 17 feet of water) to within 5 feet of the surface. It'll be interesting to see how deep the fish hang in relation to the thermocline. Maybe I can even poke a few holes in the ice this winter and see what's up.

PaPond you just gave me an idea. That could be dangerous. I've been wondering too, if fish use the structure all the way to the bottom throughout the summer. You definitely need to keep us informed on this one.

I had forgotton that my kids had snorkeling equipment. Looks like I've got a new thing to try next summer when the water warms.

If you choose to snorkel, just be prepared not to jettison your bowels when you are at full depth in your pond, and come face to face with an angry Bryozoan

The unit cost $170 at Dick's Sporting Goods, I figure it's the same as going out to dinner twice. So to make up for it I'm on the hook for 2 fish dinners. Know any good LMB recipies?
