I know I have read on this site about how to position barrels for catfish. I have several 30 and 50 gallon plastic barrels. I think I remember someone saying to point the open end to the south. Do I cut the entire end off or half and how deep?

Thanks, Craig

I thought it was point the open end towards shore(?). My CC spawning cavities pretty much go every which way, and at least some of them have worked.

I think you should cut the hole smaller than the entire end - guesstimate what size hole your cats will need to get through.

Yeah, someone mentioned pointing them a certain way. I don't know why it would matter. I will make the holes smaller than the end of the barrel.

We use the ten gallon milk cans and lay them on there side facing the north. Facing them north keeps the sun out of them and the cats lay their eggs right at the front of the can just behind the neck of the can. Make sure all the air is out of them and the cats will love it.
