I don't have names for all the structure in my pond, but I do have:

Harry (a big pink granite boulder),
Robby (the robot),
Alcatraz (the rockpile),
The Bird Cage (plastic mesh rolls), and
The Tile twins, Deep and Shallow.

Who names their structure, and what do you call it?

I have the bluegill "Condominium".

I have the 'kitchen sink', a bunch of old enamel pots, pans, and tea kettles tied together and sunk in a brush pile. It is now high and dry, though.

I have a fish hotel , a beaver point and Shannon's structure.

I'm going to have "North Stickups", "South Stickups", "East Mesa" and "West Mesa". Unless I get lucky and the neighbor's tractor falls into the pond, that'll be all my structure.

We have named different spots of our ponds, and there's usually some structure related to it.

One was called 'Lilly Point' because it was a drop-off point, all deep water around it, and I had got some lilly pads to take hold there for about a month before the turtles ate 'em.

On another shallow point, I took the drawers from an old wooden desk, and filled them with gravel and sunk them along with some larger stones, and piles of smaller stones. I call that the 'Library.' You know, like "I caught that darn smallie in the library again."

There's an old wooden rowboat that's partially sunk or silted in, and we call it 'The Wreck.' It's in some water that can vary from 1 to 3' depth, in a narrow area that is one connection between the two halves of my pond which we call 'The Pinch.'

In the first two years that we owned the place, there used to be a LMB that hung out right next to the boat. He was one of the bigger LMB that I'd ever seen in the pond, maybe 22" long. I was never able to catch him as he's spoke pretty easy. Since then, I've never seen many fish hanging around that sunken boat. It's gotten more silted in over the years.

As far as locations go, I have "Sunfish Bay" (named after an incredibly prolific BG/RES fishing session August 8, 2004, a day that will live in fishamy) and "Bay of the Dock." The latter is bisected by the dock (whoda thunkit) into the "Otis" side and the "Redding" side.

In Northern Michigan, a hill under water is sometimes called a "blind island". After spending too long searching for a fabled hot-spot in my very favorite lake, we named it something sounding just like "Spit-or-go Blind Island". Never did find it.

keg - I like that "Spit-or-go Blind Island", though there are a lot of syllables to remember.

I've named some structure,Pirate's Island,sunken ship,etc. But to stir the imagination of the little ones,the inlets of my pond are named,Alligator Alley,Crocodile Creek.Snakes Slew,Indian Ambush. Last sunday, I had 8 kids from 5 to 15 yrs. old swimming with me,so when they jump off the dock they're Official Pond Jumpers,and if they follow me under the wooden dock,they're Official dock Explorers! It's all about having fun!!

Most of you guys are far more imaginative than I am. We own an 80 acre hilly tract with two other couples. Our pond/lake is 8 acres. (When does it quit being a pond and become a lake?)

I have named ares based on their locations to homesites: Maranto Point, Stephenson Point and White Point. South Cove, East Cove and West Cove.

One of our families has 3 year old triplets. They would probably enjoy some more imaginative names

I have a good friend with a private lake over 100 acres. He has three named structures: Big John, Little John and Lost John (the one that is no longer marked with buoys). They are all huge piles of old cracketd toilets that were placed for structure.

my pond area names are very literal, i've named "rock dam" for the upper sediment basin structure, and "fish craters" for obvious reasons....couple pics....





both taken shortly after renovation, and when beginning to fill with first rains of season in late November 05.


was out in boat yesterday evening, the tops of several craters are beginning to emerge due to evaporation, but the sides, still submerged, are absolutely choked with schools of mosquito fish and bullfrog tadploes...very cool.

I think we are going to have to name our pallet structure "OH CRAP!! condo" when I had 2 pallets in the front with cinder blocks wired to the bottom, when I went to flip them in the water off the front, Luckily my daughter was quick to counter balance the rear and left side of our little 12 john boat when all the weight was hanging on the front right side of the boat before it went in, My daughter said "whew I thought I was going to have to use my life jacket"
