Wondering how the weather this winter will effect the fish in my pond. We've had weather 10-20 degrees warmer than normal here in Northern Ohio and no snow.

Generally speaking, warmer temps will raise metabolism, fish will eat more and grow larger, “if” temps change moderately. But, Mother Nature plays cruel games, she causes problems with wide swings, that stresses fish. It can also lead to disease and sub-par growth. Water quality is on the line too…
Deviance from the norm is probably bad, unless you have a mild winter, and mild fluctuations…hope for that at this point, you could have a bumper crop next year !

60 degrees here in Pittsburgh today.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Due to this years unseasonably warm weather, open water on the ponds and zero snow cover, I started to wonder what the effects would be of starting the aerator, assuming surface water temps got into, lets say, the upper 40's. The thought behind this is based on the mixing of warm surface water with the cooler bottom water.
Eastlands post lends itself to what I think would be the downside. Drastic temperature swings would only serve to stress the fish. That said, the forecast for tomorrow is calling for the mid 60's.

Thanks Ted. Double exclamation points leads me to believe you've got some hands on experience with this.
