Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Storm last night

I was wondering how much rain you texas and louisiana guys got last night with that storm that blew in. we got about 3 inches. Bobad hows the newly finished pond looking?

Just east of Waco,about 30 miles got just over an inch,slowly.Not what I wantd,it was just enough to keep me from installing aeration system I got yesterday.6" in about 5 minutes would be nice.I have a well worn path from my pond through my frenchfried backyard to the faucet at the house where the fish come up at night and get a drink!

I've gotten about .5 inches so far.

Got 1.6" over the weekend......then 3.5" last night. I got up early to check out the pond and it is about 6" from going over the spillway. The water is pouring through the metal grate I have installed in the spillway. I will try to get some pix....wife is wanting me to take it easy today(diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday). May have to put her temporarily in charge of pond management for a day or so.

Maybe we could dig a small ditch from my pond to all youse guy's ponds? Here in Origun, my 2 acre pond started going out the over-flow on Christmas Eve. Nice present, eh? And it just ain't true that us pond-meisters in Origun have webbed feet... :p

We got 3.5 inches...have creeks running out the primary spillways on all ponds. We are finally getting that much needed water exchange after two years of stagnation.

BarO...listen to your wife and take care of yourself...that stuff is not to be messed with. Hope you are back at it quickly.

We got 2.70 inches here in the piney woods of eastern Texas

I just missed the bulk of it and got 1 1/2 inches. Ten miles to the West in Lindale, they got 4 inches. The news said there are four possible tornado touchdown locations on the West side of Tyler and we had alerts for a few hours. I'm North East of Tyler and the storm just went straight up through Tyler to Lindale.

My little pond is overflowing and I haven's seen what the big one looks like yet.

BarO, You must have been right in the middle of it!!! Are you just west of Tyler? Bullard or Noonday? They lost quite a few buildings and trees!!!

Rest up and take care of that pneumonia.

I am 2 miles north of Brownsboro. It was our biggest rain of the year. It beat last February's(2/25) gullywashing that measured 2.25". It doesn't take many miles to make a big difference in rainfall. At least, that is what I kept telling myself all year. We are suppsed to get rain again midweek.

I am going out to see down by Corsicana this week. Hopefully blast a few ducks too.

Wicked, we got 7.8 inches from last week's system. I'll find out tomorrow what dropped last night and today. My wild guess is 5 inches.

Dudley thats alot of rain! I am glad we didnt get that much we would be floating over here.

My little rain gage collected 4.6" from about dark Friday night through Saturday at noon. Most of it fell in a very short time as a band of hard rain passed over at about 6am on Saturday morning.

I couldn't resist driving out to the pond and slogging through the water and mud to see if everything was working as designed. The ditches were collecting about 75% of the runoff (still lots of work to do!), and were flowing briskly into the limestone "fish filter" I built. The crushed limestone gravel didn't even slow the water down. It was instantly disappearing with a nice rushing sound, and flowing under the levee through the 10" pipe just as I intended. (That's a load off my mind!) I guess the pond is about 1/2 full by now. I guess your pond is brimming full by now, and I hope everyone's is!

Im about 20 miles west of corsicana and have a flock of about 60-70 ducks visiting my pond- - - come get all you want. Just make sure one of em has really LONG legs when you leave...tastes just like chicken.

Yeah mine more than full, its still slightly draining to the front ditch this morning.

I am new to the forum and to pond building. Just after Thanksgiving we just finished what we hope will become a 4 acre pond. We had challenging soils with lots of sand but a decent clay bank gave us what we hope will be adequate. We are in Wood County Texas near Mineola. My rain guage says we had 7 inches of rain last week! Friday nights storm dropping 5 inches in a few hours. It is a good news, bad news scenario. I put on my best Goretex rainsuit and watched the pond fill up during the heavy rainstorm. (I have been obsessed with the pond project and couldn't resist not watching it!) Prior to the rain it was covering about 3/4 of an acre and now it is 1 1/2 Acres in size. My annual rye was not very well established yet and most of it is now washed out. I also had quite a bit of erosion - luckily the bulldozer is still on the property and we can clean up a bit.

We live at Sundowner Lake in Hainsville(list Quitman because who knows where Hainsville is, like anyone knows where Quitman is. LOL).
In the Observations check out creating my lake section. Eddie is just down the road in Winona.
Any chance to take a look at your pond?

I doubt I'm saying anything new...but moderate rainfall for a new pond is preferred, that gives the dam time to rise and fall a couple of times before holding back the force of a full pool. My pond was 1/2 full when an 8" rain hit, there were a few parallel cracks where the dirt sloughed off to the pond side, one was 2 to 3 inches wide. It's filled in nicely now, but I would hate to think what would have happened if it completely filled during 1 rainfall event. The same holds true for your pond structure as for your fish base...the key is patience. 1/2 inch recorded in Eastland, 5-6 feet low...jon boat high & dry. No need for the boat, you can easily walk and fish around the beach like shore. except it's dirt

Received a total of 5.5" just south of Iola, Texas. 2 acre tank breeched for the second time this year.

Todd Overton should have received his share plus possible tornadic activity.

3.5 inches in Hurst where I didn't really need it. 1.35 inches at Bowie where I really need it and a whole bunch more. Still down about 6 ft.

We got 1.5 inches of rain, followed by 7 inches of snow. It's really wet around here. Hope it stays wet until the first spring storm comes by.

We didn't get enough in Zephyr to wet a coyote's wisker.

Here in Tyler county...East Texas our springs/creeks are finally running......years of drought finally ending..............now I've still got 30 inches of water to be full since contruction in 2004.............yippeeeeeeeeee

It must be our turn ......got another 1.65" last night and early this morning. I have water running through the grate on the spillway. Ended 2006 with 34.45" at the BarO (6"+ in December), almost 10" more than last year but still short of normal.
