i just added another .95 acre to my pond,i should have answer to this question but i can't remember.how long should water be in new pond before i add bream and flathead minnows.i got about 2 feet of water this weekend from rain and spot they dug to deep.I was thinking about putting 75-100 large bream in new section and wait about 3-4 months before adding bass.i would then connect the new pond to larger pond after bass have been in new section a few months.thanks

Wait till you get some water in there, get about 5 to 6 feet of water first....

Seriously, I am not particularly familiar with fish's posts and cannot comment on his rating. With respect to myself, I seriuosly doubt my own rating is due to any great expertise in pond management or fishing, because that's not what I'm best at. There are some non-central topics discussed here, like farm implements or manure, which I may know more about than the average forum user. With respect to the central pond/fish subjects, I know some basics which I try to share with newbies who may know even less than I do, primarily to try and free up the time of the pros and might-as-well-be-pro amateurs to handle questions that I haven't a clue with. I will be learning from guys like Bill Cody, Cecil Baird, Bruce Condello, Greg Grimes, and Grandmaster Bob Lusk (the rest of you valuable contributors, please do not feel offended that I couldn't take the time to mention you all) for years if they never make another post and I just go over what they have already said that is archived here.

I AM aware of a few of the many mistakes I have made so far, and am willing to share these experiences (hell, some of them were funny). I reserve the right to display my remaining ignorance by asking questions some may consider naive or stupid. And sometimes I would rather ask a great group of people something I can't remember rather than try to re-research it.

As for when to put in the fish, I understand FH can go in when there's 5 or 6 feet of water. I don't know if there would be sufficient food for 75-100 large bream by then - might depend on how long it took to fill (longer = more invertabrates).

I also would not put anything but Fatheads in now. Even though you might get by with putting in the BG now you'll have a better pond if you apply some patience.
Do the FH's now & the BG mid summer & the Bass next spring.

Add the large bgill right-a-way ONLY if they are pre-trained to eat fish food. It will take three to six months for the insect / invertebrate populations to develop in your new pond toadequately feed adult sized bgill. However 1"-2" bgill and fatheads can go in one or two months after filling.

I built a one acre pond in 2002 with steep sides when it started to rain i ask the ok. fish hatchery in durant when i could put in BG & fatheads they told me any time i had a foot or more of water and not to worrie about grass or feed as it would come in with insects and grass would start soon enough. i had 3 ft of waterdepth an put in 4 pounds of fatheads and 2 pounds of blugill, did not rain water went down no oxy just silt. when it did rain i had erosion and a thick mud hole killed everything. lesson learned i will not put any thing in my next pond untill over half full then minnows later BG with a feeder and bass an channel cat about six months or more after that. had to clean out fist pond then fertilize and seed now it is cloudy but fish are doing very good.
