Would it hurt anything to add treated (city) water to a pond. If my math is right I could raise my 1 acre pond about 3/4 inch per day. If I left the water on for acouple of weeks and added a foot to the existing 5 foot of water would it cause any problems?

WOW thats alot of water through your water meter, what did you do pull your meter? If I remember there is 43560 feet in a acre and 7.48 gallons in a sq foot, 325828.8 gallons

I dont know about how they treat your water but here they use chlorimines and chlorines to disinfect,

1 acre, 3/4 inch per day is 3/4 X 1/12 acre-foot or 3/48 acre-foot. 1/16 of an acre-foot equals over 20,000 gallons each day. If you have 1,440 minutes in a day that means you're runnin' bout 14 gpm. That's roughly two garden hoses all out.

I would be concerned about chlorine as well, i've heard that some water districts also add fluorine which is even worse for little fishys.

i might experiment with a bucket and a fish to see at what volume added the fish croaks.....you might be able to add some (city water) if you let it run overland a ways to degas the chlorine, oxygenate, and come up in temp. some before mixing w/ pond water.

I have over 20 gpm . Assuming 1/4 inch a day loss to evaporation, I should be able to raise it 3/4 inch per day. They only add chlorine. It is treated well water . I have an airiation system.

I had a water leak a while back that ran 95,000 gallons. My water bill was $350. I would hate to pay for 325,000 gallons. As for as the chlorine, you could run the water through a barrel of charcoal or even let it run downhill over ground for a hundred feet will remove most of it.

we use sodium thysulfate(spelling) to de chlorinate the water after we hyper chlorinate a new install water main to disinfect it. Its doesnt take very much and basically we put it in a burlap sack and lay it in the stream of water. Around here every 25000 gallons will get you a 150.00 bill but we dont discount for higher usage it changes the multplier to something like 1000.00 for 100000 gallons. Safe drinking water will be high dollar to buy here in the next 10-20 years probably sooner

I pay 3 dollars per 1000 gallons. I am more than willing to pay but don't want to hurt the pond.
