In the process of draining the last remaining water in pond, observed what I believe was a bowfin. After getting a net and moving through knee high muck was not able to catch it. It disappeared in 3-5 inches of water. Question-I read they can live in cavities of dried out ponds, how long and should I be worried? I figure if it is in the mud he will be dug out during renovations. Just an interesting observation.

It's probably a dog fish, they have a much more developed bladder than most fish, and they can gulp air and live out of water for some time.

What is a dog fish? Only reference I can find is to a salt water type of shark. While draining the pond I got a good look at the fish/head and I am still leaning toward a bowfin.
