I don't know about you guys, but we've got 97 degrees in the shade...a might warm for the midwest. This is, indeed, the time a man must face the natural facts that work MUST be done, regardless of the temperature outside. Without issue, the farm folk know of this lifestyle...the work and projects cannot be put off. Even productive city folk accept this notion.
It is under these conditions that I fluorish. A time when I risk health and heat stroke to meet the needs of beckoning progress....

AMEN brother, I figured you as very intelligent. Now you prove it. You had me worried , and feeling guilty at first, but came through like a champ.

Very hot here as well. Them. says 99 + humid. I went to the ponds to work the last 2 days and lasted about 3 hrs. each day, 9-12 am but was only filling feeders and put out 2 bags of lime. Then retreated to the computer which has a floor cold air vent blowing on the necessary parts (see below)

You know you are a man when you can sit on the aluminum jon boat bench seat at 99 in shorts and not flip the boat over jumping up in a micro second.

90+ degrees and very sunny here, today. I just got in after cutting hay and although it's warmer than yesterday, the humidity's lower and there's a little breeze . But I did NOT put my free hand on the tractor fender any while mowing, nor will I be sitting on any metal seats in shorts.

Whew......104.7 degrees and 35% humidity. The pond looks OK from the AC'd house.

Currently in McCook, NE, National weather service reports 108 degrees and 9% humidity. Very unusual for Nebraska. Almost always have humidity that's quite high.

107 yesterday in Bowie, Texas. However, not much humidity for a change. I was able to last almost all of the day.

Today I was at a neighbors place picking up some stuff. He has a beautiful, clear little stock tank. I almost went skinny dipping. Of course, I would have had to get out of my air conditioned pickup.

We had 100 the last two days in middle Georgia. We also have a serious lack of rain. We are below normal year to date by 9 inches. My pond is down 12 inches from full pool.

Could be worse. You all could join me at the aluminum foundry I work at. It hits 120+ inside on a 90 degree day. 135+ on a 100 degree day, but its a dry heat.

Suppose to reach 106 today, and like H2O, its a dry heat.....~15% if that. Woke up this morning to air choked w/ leftover wildfire smell and particulates.

Frank, my puddle is down ~3.5 feet and going. I expect half to two thirds pond volume to be gone by rain season.

It's pushing 100 here now and high humidity. Spent about 6 hours each day this weekend pushing down trees and clearing land on the dozer. 6 hours and I was toast!

I am sorry to hear your pond is down so much. For years, I have complained about too much water in mine. I should have kept quiet!.

Yesterday was sort of a bad day. We had rain the previous night and I started mowng after the grass dried, I broke one of my own rules and got to close to the water edge and I slipped the tractor in. Took my pickup and pulled it out and changed oil and filter, it runs good but I knew better and was upset with myself for becoming careless. I hope that is the last time.

I'm glad you're OK. Don't tell my wife a tractor went in a pond somewhere - "That never happens, honey."

Every time I've put one in a pond or had a similar close call, I always hope it is the last, but it never is. Glad you are fine

I feel sorry for you guys in the midwest and Cali. High 90s to over 100. Tough stuff. It is actually cooler in H-town. Low to mid 90s, but after several rainy days, RH(another achronym) is 108%. The Texans new 50 million dollar defensive end has to get used to the humidity...poor guy, and thats practicing in the air conditioned bubble. :rolleyes:

we're finally out of heat wave. my max temp on property was 114 earlier this week, overnight low 85.....had about two weeks of it, now we have our delta breeze (marine layer blown inland) cooling us off (90 by day, 60 by night....nice).

in my machine shed. lasted to about noon even with a big fan
moving air around. We are several inches below normal rainfall this year, but the pond problems are 2 to 3 years without any significant runoff from rain. I have 6 ponds ( livestock water supply) - only 1 with fist - of the 6, 3 are day and another may not make it to the end of August. 2 of the dry ones went dry last summer. lot of cattle owners have been hauling water since cattle went on grass in the spring.

My fish pond is 6 foot below the full mark. Good news is that the flat bottom in front of the dam is still about 8 foot deep, I bought the place in 1981 and this pond has never been a dry hole. in 1989 it got down to 6 foot deep but fortunately a mild winter - never did freeze over- got us through without fish loss.

A couple of friends caught 4 snappers between 10 & 13 pounds each yesterday. Most of the ponds in a 2-3 mile radius are dry and those guys are on the move. They weren't there a few weeks ago. No relief in sight. We can't even get a 5" dose of thunder and lightening.

My wife just got back from a business trip to the Chesapeak Bay area, and said that everything looked nice and green from her view in the plane.

2 years ago I was mowing with a very small 12 hp lawn tractor near the pond. Got it hung up and started rocking from behind it while in reverse - it took off and took me and it into the pond. It kept running (carb and air intake above water). the "friend" that helped me pull it out with his 4-wheeler just happened to take a photo that ended up on the bulletin board at work.


we were 99 today and looking at the same for next 4 days. Good for us in the A/C business. We had enough rain to be declared a "disaster" area by the guvner.
