Yesterday I was reflecting on the things I would do differently, on the next pond. I made a ton of mistakes and lost a number of plants. I can't get into the photo program right now but will add a few pictures or email as soon as I can.
First I would make a drawing of the pond area, including all the areas to be landscaped. I would also include any areas that have already been landscaped if you want blend the existing and the new. Then rough out an overall plan. Locate any water and electric lines that you think you might need. I would then add all paths, walkways, stepping stones and planters. Leave enough room to move any large plants or equipment around. Amend the soil if needed. Add the plants, starting with the largest and working down to the smallest. Watch out for access routes, don't get caught needing to plant a large tree in an area that is difficult to get to. If at all possible get water to all of the areas you want to plant prior to planting. You will be surprised how many plants you will wind up with and hand carrying water can be time consuming and enthusiasm damping, pun intended. If you have already done all of this, you are going to have a beautiful and successful pond project.

1/4 & 3/4 acre ponds. A thousand miles from no where and there is no place I want to be...

One thing I would try to do differently, landscape-wise: I would try to get the banks to raise up 6" or so immediately at the water's edge for as much of the pond perimeter as possible. It's not really a huge problem having low, wet banks on one side, just a good place to get your shoes wet. \:\(

To Dam or not to dam

That isn't even a question

Not much as far as Landscaping goes, but the kids and I like it. The first photo is right after construction looking at it from the back of the house. The second photo is from the other side looking back at house this spring. thinking of putting up a Zip Line this year. Kids are really buggin me for it.

Its not how well you do something,
Its how well you look doing it!
