I am starting the construction of approx. 2 acre pond built in a creek bed. I have cleared all the timber in the deep end(at the dam) but I am not sure what to do about the shallow end. Everything I have read suggest 10-15% of bottom should have cover and living within 15 min of Lake Fork makes me think I should leave all timber standing. The trade off is depth if the timber is not removed and I worry about tanic acid from the hardwoods. My alternative would be to remove the timber, dig it deeper (from 2ft to 4-6ft) and just put tree trunks and other cover back in once it it dug. I welcome any suggestions.

In Texas your 2 foot areas will probably go dry during the summer. I would remove the trees and go deeper. You can always add structure back in, plus you could create channels and ledges. It's hard work to clear them out, but I think you'll be happier going bigger. Do not leave in any Post Oak.
