I finished up my main pond and wildlife pond a few weeks ago, and also did alot of bulldozer work around the access road and other areas. I've seeded heavily with several different types of grass but everything is just coming out of dormancy and no grass has sprouted yet.

It's rained several times since finishing this work, and some erosion is starting up on the sides of the road and the upper lip of the pond. I've been tossing rocks into the ruts to slow down the water, but then got the idea to use some of that erosion control fabric.

Has anyone else used it and did it work well? I'm guessing you use ground staples to anchor it to the ground. We have a Lowes just a mile from my office and I'll probably go over during lunch today and see what they have.

Thanks,
Eric

Anything helps. I'm a big believer in burlap that comes in rolls myself. It may be cheaper and not only does the grass come right up through it, it keeps the birds from eating the seed.

About $100.00 for a 300 by 6 foot roll.

I'd never build another pond without erosion control again.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Cecil, I gotta agree about erosion control. When I built my first pond, I tossed out bermuda seed, wheat, and rye. It worked OK. However, copious amounts of sand washed out of the sandy loam and into the bottom. I probably lost at least a ft. of depth. The burlap would have gone a long way in preventing it. I now have rocks in all of the little gullies.

Thanks for all the ideas. I dropped by Lowes tonight and got some seed blankets and some biodegradable spikes. They were $23 per 4'x50' roll. They had burlap rolls and another type of erosion control fabric, but what I got seemed to be the best deal. I'm going to lay it over the eroding areas tomorrow morning.

Thanks,
Eric
