Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Show Mr. Drought your pics

So here I am and am noticing many members here mentioning drought eating up their pond.

Its been drier than normal here also, and I see a mini-me version of some of these ponds. I imagine others have it worse off than me, but just wanted to add a photo to attest to "Honey, the weather shrunk my pond!"


In this second pic, I added a little island for the C geese that nest here every year. Will they accept my offer?


Do you have any pics available to show us this entertainment during the very few winter days we have left?

Mine are in about the same shape but I just don't want to take pictures. My wife and I bought some minnows and tried for some bass on one of mine. It has been nice weather so I figured they ought to bite. I go no bites and no BG coming to feed. I may have had a die off that I didn't know about but suspected.

On the other one, the fish fed somewhat but the only fishing I did was to fish a bloated, dead dog out. Although I didn't look it over very carefully, I think it must have been poisoned. In the interest of gender equality, I asked for my wifes help. You know the answer.

Dave, in your second pond with the deceased dog, it reminds me of Moby Dick when they were out on the ocean with nothing in sight and they encounter a floating casket/funeral drifting by.

It's hard not to look at it like an omen. Not that I think it is any kind of omen, just forboding. But then you throw in the commnent about the dog being poisoned.....it just sounds dark.

Even in such a gloomy situation, your kind and caring character shines right through by thoughtfully asking your wife for help!!.

Ouch...that's one thirsty hole in the ground. WRT the C Geese, where I come from, we will send donations to enlarge that island to accommodate a few hundred extra...I'll point 'em in your direction.

Well, I gotta admit, I didn't specifically ask for help. I offered the opportunity for some togetherness. She's big on that. The results were the same and really conclusive.

I'm down about four feet or about 32.5 million gallons of water. I have use some to irrigate the pastures and if this keeps up will be using more this spring.

, wow TEXAS715, that's alot of water to be missing. How big of lake do you have down there?

Hmmmm. 32.5 million gallons=100 acre-feet/4 ft=25 acre pond.

Am I close?

Just from memory. I know it's posted somewhere...I'm recalling 12 acres.

WOW, I stand corrected, and more jealous than before ! Maybe it was a Nostrodomis moment, and I was thinking of how small it will get with the drought we're having ! I do remember 715 saying his spring was 88 degrees though...that should let Tilapia thrive in an environment unique to his LAKE

Pond is only a foot low this fall.

Good deal, Lance. I'm about 6 ft low on one and 3 ft or so on another.

Dave the long range weather forecast for our area is for a wetter than normal December. I sure hope they are right!

That's some dry hole you've got there. How far below full are you?

it dropped a total of 6 feet (slowly coming back now) transforming an ~1 surface acre 15 foot pool to about 2/3 a surface acre, and 8 to 9 feet in deep end. enough to support fish year round, but certainly not ideal. am saving $$ to install a well maybe next year or year after.

Heck, that�s nothing. Mudcat Joe says the little bit of rain we got this summer was in such small cells that the pond he poaches on was down six feet on one side and only three feet low on the other. I told him that didn�t make any sense, and he responded by letting fly with a gob of terbaccy juice and then added that he tied off his trot line in the willow branches on the high side and the willow roots on the low side. I had nothing to say to that.

Thats why I got out of the forestry business. I spent too much time walking across steep slopes while cruising timber. I got one leg 18 inches long, the other is 3 feet long.
