What is the best way to lime a pond? I have a 3 acre pond I want to fertilize and someone has recommended I lime the pond first. Just wondered how you all lime ponds.

quickly best method is liming barge. Second best spreader truck that runs off PTo so he can back right up to pond shore in several spots. If this does nto wrok then you can load on john boat will plywood. Also you can do it with bags but much more epensive. Did you get rec. on how much? IF your alkalinity is like GA I rec. 4 tons/acre to buy you 4-5 years before again necessary.

Greg gave the options on methods of liming. First you need to check your alkalinity to be sure you need to lime(or are close to needing to) if you haven't done so. A soil analysis of the dirt from your pond bottom is also a good idea to see what you are working with. It is possible to add lime and have great alka. but be missing one of the other necessary elements (nutrients) to have a sucessful fert. program. One other way to lime is to use a electric spreader that you would put on the back of a four wheel ATV. A guy at work said that this is what he uses to put lime down on his yard. My idea is that it would put the lime down more evenly.
