Greetings,

I met with my earth mover yesterday and we looked over my potential pond site. According to him, everything looked good to go.

I do have some questions for impartial judges. The pond will be built on a slight slope, which kinda flattens out through the area of the pond. I plan on stopping the down hill water edge as soon as the grade starts to drop off. At this point the land really starts to slope off, until it drops off into a sizeable seasonal creek. There is also another huge drainage area on one side that has car size boulders in it that I plan on routing my spillway to.

The pond will be mostly excavation with some embankment on the down hill side. We will then take the spoils and grade down them down hill creating a roughly 40-50' flat area/dam that is now the downward slope. The deep end will be on the uphill side with a sandy beach and gradual slope to the down hill/dam side.

I hope this makes sense. Does this sound reasonable and safe?

Thanks,

Joe

What kind of slope are you talking about where the pond/dam will be? 3:1, 4:1, ???

The shelf where the pond will be located is somewhat flat. I would say there is probably a 1-2' drop over 100'. After that, where the dam would begin, drops off 1' every 4' for about 30', then it gets steeper and eventally drops off into the season creek bed.

Clear as mud?

Joe
