Thanks Dudley, that's a good question on the water level. We have gone through an extremely dry period the last few years with Lake Michigan within inches of the all time record low. Depressed water levels definitely helped construction. You can see the difference in water levels between August and last weekend by looking at the island and tree stump over the dog's nose and the most distant island on the large photo taken from the opposite side on the mound (about 3-feet). This is a water table pond so that is pretty significant. I'm hoping that the roads will be high enough when we enter a wet cycle.
There are plenty of concerns with winter kill due to all the leaves and a relatively shallow pond depth here in the lake effect snow belt. Ice went out March 15th and I saw a few bass today for the first time. Should be good for a few years. I'm going to try to limit the organic layer as much as possible right from the start. Happy to have PB to learn how.
