Guys, I have two ponds, about same distance from my house, One is about 1.5A the other 1.25A, I have a catfish pond and want to make one (hopefully both) into a Trophy bass pond. I know they are small but thats all I have to work with. One is just a deep hole (thats the big one). The other is a rectangle with a small overflow pond, thats shallow. Both about the same average depth. Neither has underwater cover. They are just used to water cattle. My worry with the small one is that in the summer the gap that connects the two small pond together may close off. Then do I need to worry about fish escaping in the run off? They big pond has less chance of going dry. I plan to use the Bob Lusk stocking style as used in his Raising Tropey Bass book.

Anyone that can make sense of this, please tell me what I need to do (maby look for different ponds).

Thanks JB.

Question for clarification, JB. Is one of these two ponds the existing catfish pond, or is that a third pond?

Theo, My catfish pond is totally seperate. And to add more info, the water quality on both of the possible ponds would be the same. Both rely on runoff, not spring fed. Then anyone have ideas on adding structure to an existing pond?

Thanks, JB

If it were me, and I really wanted a trophy bass pond, I'd use the 1.5 acre for the big bass. I'd dedicate the smaller pond as a forage pond to support the trophy bass pond (well, maybe combo forage and some other use - overcrowded BG with a few HSB?).

There are more structure ideas here already than I would have believed possible - someone has probably added used domestic plumbing fixtures (the proverbial kitchen sink) for structure.
