Thanks to George for teaching an old dog new tricks. He E-mailed me a video of how to manage a fly rod. Heck, it's easy. Of course, it works better with a tail wind. I tried lots of ways to fish this weekend, live bait, spinner baits, worms and flies. The flies were the only thing I caught anything on. They wouldn't even hit a nightcrawler. His pellet type fly accounted for a 9.5 inch native bluegill. I knew I had some big ones because I had seen them when they fed.

I'm convinced and converted. I have resisted this all my life. When I was learning how to fish when I was young, it was all catfish. Of course, in Muleshoe, Texas we had to go quite a ways to find fishing water. If a bass hit a minnow it went in the frying pan. We didn't release any edible fish. Fly fishing was something we saw in Sports Afield and/or Outdoor Life. It always showed a guy smoking a pipe that looked suspiciously like Bing Crosby and fishing for something called trout. They went into something called a creel. In other words, it just didn't relate to our world. I'll be picking up more flies and some other stuff. BTW, George, my wife ain't thanking you at all. She says, "Here we go again. Another hobby"
