Hello all,
I just stocked my pond last fall with the hatchery recommended fish. I was told to come back in March for my Bass. I went and picked up my 100 Bass and another 10lb. of Fatheads. That same day (within an hour) I had a half dozen ducks bobbing in my pond. They are very persistent along with the Geese that are always here but I don't think the Geese are eating my fish (?). I'm thinking my Fatheads ain't going to last long. The ducks are pretty buy I don't want them as pets.

What kind of ducks are they????? If they are surface feeding ducks such as the mallards, black ducks etc., their diet really isn't fish but if they are fish eating diving ducks like the merganser's you could loose a few. Also, watch out for the cormorants.......

Never seen these kind of ducks till the other day. According to the book I have they look like a Hooded Merganser. Never seen them around here before. Usually just Mallards, Wood ducks, etc. They are kinda pretty but definetly divers not surface feeders. Have some Rails in the summer and a few Cranes some other kind of wader sometimes. It's a pretty busy pond.

Mergansers typically nest further north than the I-70 line. Shouldn't have to worry about them much longer as they are on their spring migration back north.
