I could tell you are from Texas...."tanks"...another grass that works good in East Texas is bahia grass, has good root system to hold dirt in place.

Rick,
I used a large amount of Buffalo grass around the house and along the dam and parts of my ponds. I like Buffalo lots but it is not very traffic tolerant and is susceptable to more invassive/agressive types Like Bermuda (coastal and common) as well as Kings Ranch Bluestem.
The bermuda has taken over at the house and the KR bluestem around the pond. I must say though toward the end of summer and into fall I let the KR seed out and the dried stems and seed heads look great blowing in the breeze.
I have also let some big bushy bluestem grow around various points on my ponds and that looks great also.
Depending on what you want out of the grass there are some great options with natives. It just helps to have reasonable expectations.
Good luck and let us know more detail if you get a chance.
Cheers,
JW
