Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Another strange winter

here in northern Indiana. Can anyone else relate?

I've had ice come and go twice on my ponds and we only had good ice for about a week from what I've been told (I was in Florida then).

I'd be pretty frustrated here if I was in the Bait and Tackle business or an ice fishermen.

I suppose the good thing is I don't have to worry about winter kill.

Whether you believe in global warming or not we definintely have been in a warming trend here for the last 20 years with a few exceptions.

It was 70 degrees in Pittsburgh today.

I haven't been up to my pond in about 7 weeks. My caretaker dude told me it had froze and re-froze a few times when I spoke with him back around X-mas.

I'll have to give him a call tomorrow. Weatherman says its getting into the low teens for the next few days.

Same here in Michigan. About a month back we were skating, and playing some hockey on the pond. Have been going through some withdrawls ever since. The good news is that my 3/4 acre pond that was dug in july is now completly full after this last rain/snow storm we just had. But I agree that the winters seem to be getting shorter and warmer.

Normal weather is back as of today, but it has been very warm in georgia for a few weeks. I am still feeding the fish and last weekend they were biting like it was the middle of summer.

I have about 18 inches of ice on my pond and this morning it was 15 degrees below zero (thirty below with the wind chill). We have way below normal snowfall. In fact we set a record for the latest recorded one inch snowfall this year.

I checked my trout last weekend. Tried to catch some by ice fishing using minnows but I couldn't entice them to bite. We dropped a camera down and they appear to be doing fine.

This has been a strange winter here, but if you guys have any extra warmth please send it this way.

Cecil: The weather is SW Ontario, Canada has been warmer due to those southern winds. The ice was about 12" but the warmer weather over the last few weeks has reopened some of the lake today. More snow has fallen to date. We will see if I can get back onto the lake for some ice fishing or the boys hockey. My windmill has kept the ice open between my 2 islands for my domestic ducks and geese without chopping. A great purchase for winter.

Same here in North Alabama had one freeze over about 1/2 inch thick just before Christmas but until today every day of the New Year has been above 60 and we still have not been near freezing. Supposed to be in the 20's overnight for the next few nights though. I still have most of my winter supply of firewood left burnt more buring out a stump than I have in the fireplace.

Yep. The last two winters I've had the fire in my Hardy outdoor woodburning furnace burning nonstop from mid Oct til the end of April. This year it has gone out twice in the last week. However, it looks more like normal for the next week, with highs around 40 and lows in the 20s.
