What type of grass could be planted around a new pond in south texas with sandy soil.Would like something low maintence and would attract wild life.

Contact your County Agent and/or the NRCS. It depends on the amount of sand in the sandy loam mixture. Pure sand is nothing but finely ground rocks. Not much grows in it. However, if you have a dam, you have a mix. The County and Feds will have experience with local soils.

Buffalo grass. Grows to 6". Expensive but you never have to mow!

I had the Wilson co. biologist out recently 1 hr so. of SA and have a list if interested. e-mail me at ahvatsa@yahoo.com.
some are: Moist area switchgrass, eastern gamagrasses. japanise millet big bluestem.
Kliengrass or common bermuda on dam.
Other areas millets plains bristlegrass green sprangletop to name a few.
