Could someone direct me to a site where I could see pictures on baby small mouth bass from hatching to about 3" I have seen some spry in my pond (about 1/2" long) and I don't know if they are bass or goldfish. Or is it to early to tell at that stage. I am putting in a minnow trap this week to try to catch some and study them. I also saw pictures of Bass nesting last year but do not have the URL of the site. Appreciate any info on this subject

Bob -- I'm at home, and don't have access to any pictures. However, I do have a pretty clear answer for you.
When smallmouth bass fry hatch, and up to at least 3/4 of an inch, they are absolutely pitch black. Nothing but black, all the way around. That is where the term "black bass" originated, from the early days of fish culture.
Once they get to an inch or more, they actually look like the adult smallmouth bass.
