Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations How big will the bass in my friends pond get?

Ok, my friend has a pond 1/2 to 3/4A, It is already a great pond, I dont know how old but it is real old, anyway it has forage and cover, trees to shade it and cant be more that 10 feet deep. It is crystal clear, can see almost every fish in it. Has a good crop of blue gill of all sizes. And the bass in it are SOOOOOO HUGE. I mean if you hook one its a good chance its a 5 pounder.(Also ones in there a lot bigger than 5) SO my question is if a bass in a small pond has a lotta food how much bigger can he get? Or how did they get so big, I know this guy does not manage it, or how many people he lets fish it/sneek in. Anyway did they get so big because its clear and easy pickins, or did someone stock it with Lunkers? Then also at this rate can I expect that they could eventually get 10 to 12 or bigger, or have they maxed out. Thanks for any info.

You don't say where the pond is located. That has a lot to do with how big a largemouth bass will grow. For example, in upstate New York, a 6 pound bass is huge. But, in Florida, people don't bat an eye at a bass unless it's larger than 13 pounds. Bass growth rates are based on genetics, the amount of food, the amount of space, population dynamics(competition), and geography.

Its in Southern Oklahoma, I guess they are not real big for the area but I thought they were really big for that pond.(bass and blue gill only fish in pond, maby a minnow or two) And if they have all the stuff you mentioned, then can they get much bigger? Also does the water being so clear help/hurt how big the fish get?
