My neighbor up the hill from me brought in several truck loads of dirt to fill in his yard. Shortly there after we had some heavy rains that washed the silt into my pond. That was 2 months ago and my once clear pond still looks like the Red River. Is there any thing other than time that will take care of this and will time take care of it? It really looks bad.

We had the same trouble. We got some gypsum and scattered it in our pond. It was cleared up in 2 weeks

time, time and time is the cheap way,2nd cheap way is find somebody building a house a get all the sheet rock they are throwing away and put in your pond.this will take about 2 weeks to break down, but it's free gypsum.you need about 200-300 pounds of sheet rock per acre.3rd is write check and buy gypsum.

hopefully before you buy and apply it, your neighbor will level the dirt and have some grass growing before the next down pour. a filter fence would help some. is the pond feed from a water shed or creek ?

My pond is spring fed and my neighbor has grass growing. I just want to get rid of the red color. I think I'll need to try the gypsum because it has been 2 months and I don't see any noticable changes. Is 2-300 pounds per acre the correct dosage?

Aluminum sulfate is a product that can be used to clarify the water. The problem that you have is suspended sediment. Alum, aluminum sulfate, will bind with this sediment and floculate out these particles. It will only take 24 hours to achieve results.
