Couldsomeone direct me to a site where I can see pictures of baby bass a couple of weeks after hatching. I put in some sm last year and they were supposed to breed in the middle of june. I could not see any nests as the water clarity is only about 30inches. But yesterday (in a shallow area I saw a school of tads (about 1/2" to 3/4" ) They were very fast and looked to be a brownish black color) there was no adult fish with them. Could these be the ones I have been waiting for. I have still lots of goldfish in the pond but I have a feeling that these are not goldfish babies. Thanks

Hi Bob.
At 1/2 to 3/4 inch, smallmouth bass fry are pitch black. In fact, that's where the term "black bass" originated.
I do have a photo that shows smallmouth bass fry in a pond. It is not a close-up, but you can see that the fry are black. If you want to give me an e-mail address, I can send that file to you.

About a dozen small goldfish were put in the pond anout nine years ago. Now there are thousands of them. On of the reason I put the bass in was to get rid of them. I am sure that it is the goldfish that have made the water visability so poor as it used to be very clear. Altough I have not seen the bass since I put them in, I notice that there seems to be a lot fewer small goldfish this year although there are pleanty of large ones.
Brian...Thanks for the site. I just hope that my bass breed and get rid of these goldfish and get my water back tonormal.
By the way I notice many typos (is there anyway to edit after reading)
