my buddy is building a pond in ill. it is 220ft long and 75ft wide can anyone tell me how big that is?

220 X 75 feet is 16,500 square feet. Divided by 43,560 sq. ft. (one acre) makes it .378 acres or almost .4 acres.
Why so narrow?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

damming a spring that iscoming out of the hill in my pasture field,didnt have alot to spend to make it wider have to clear alot of trees.

So Cecil, if I use your formula. I have a 1/5 acre pond. It is roughly 70X120. Do you have to figure in the depth? Or do you do that to figure the amount of water? So how do you figure out the amount of water? Thanks Homer

Consider depth and size seperate isues. Depth is not a factor in acerage. Depth is also not considered in stocking rates, just surface acers. To calculate the total volume of water you can multiply the surface acres by the average depth to find how many acer-feet of water you have, then multiply acer-feet by 326,000 to find total gallons. If you need to know cubic feet instead of gallons you can multiply acer-feet by 43,560 to find total cubic feet. Just to reiterate: surcace acres x average depth = acer-feet 1 acer-foot=326,000 gallons=43,560 cubic feet 7.5 gallons=1 cubic foot
