I have a new 2 acre pond, 18 feet deep, filling steadily with the rain. I have an open loop ground source heat pump that puts well water into the lake at 5 gallons per minute. The water only flows when I use my A/C, which can be 50% of the time during the hottest part of the summer. The low oxygen water pressure is about 40 psig. Can anyone offer any thoughts,...Am I better off spraying this water across the surface, or installing a venturi type aerator at 10 feet deep, which would provide about 30 scfh of air to bubble up through the water.

I don't think a 5 gallon a minute flow going only some of the time will make much differance in a two acre pond. If it is warm it won't sink to the bottom either. I do however think areation is always a good idea.

Hi Jeff, I feed about 4000 gallons per day from my well into my pond to keep it topped off and have it going into a six head sprayer I built from PVC pipe and brass spray down nozzles. I get about 20 ft of height before the spray comes splashing into the pond, not sure how much oxygen I am adding but the effect is nice and everyone who drives by also takes a look. It also keeps a nice open area in the winter when the pond freezes over so that is an added benefit.

Bob, I have been wondering how much water I would need to add to make-up for summer evaporation losses (and some ground perculation). My installation will also be adding about 4000 gallons per day into my pond during the hottest part of the summer. Does your 4000 gpd maintain you pond level even in the summer? How much surface area is your pond?
