Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Identifying plants Is this coontail?

Was out fishing and found two large mats of this. It's in about 12 foot of water. Breaks off easily. Was thinking of hitting it with some hydrothol if it's coontail as I don't want it to spread more.

It looks like coontail to me.

I agree with Theo as the leaves of coontail are usually more crowded near end of stem and leaflets have tiny teeth that are hard to see in the photo.

It does look like coontail to me, especially because of the finely divided leaves arranged in whorls and the fact that it breaks apart very easily. Coontail can be pretty easy to confuse with other submerged plants, so I usually like to compare a few features before settling on an ID. If you’re trying to identify more pond plants as they show up, botanapp.com (much better than google lens) can be another way to check a photo and compare the possibilities.
