Since the summer of 2023, I have been trying to bring a 3 acre pond back into balance. The goal is just a balanced pond with easy fishing, no trophies. There were very few small forage fish & few LMB, all skinny, for a 3 acre pond. I have been removing all underweight LMB & I think I am turning the corner. I am able to trap (Z trap) 3-4" CNBG, where last year I got none. I have decided it is time to change my culling technique, considering more than just RWs, returning only the best LMB.
I am looking for an article here & our "Pond Boss Magazine" with the finer tips to observe & consider on culling LMB, not just RWs. Goals: reproduction, health, growth, catchability, fight.
Does anyone remember such an article?
Would now be a time to consider stocking new LMB genetics?

Adding LMB genetics is the easy part. I would be adding a few adult CNBG until I saw lots of 3-5 inch CNBG. Prof Anderson - who literally wrote the book on RW posted. Keep taking <12 in bass until the number 8-12 equals number 12-15. Ideal pond structure is 40% 8-12, 40% 12-15 and 20% 15+ See link for info on RW and RC. This ,from Dr. Anderson who literally wrote the book on PSD and RW may help (from an old thread). Read these threads on PSD for guidelines which include comments from the Prof who developed the concept Richard Anderson. http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=23612&page=1http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=23960&page=1Dick Anderson Registered: 18/09/06 Posts: 5 Loc: TX, MO, WI
