I know you can approximate a fish's age from scales. Can you identify the genus? subfamily? Family from a scale? Is there a chart to compare scales too?

Turtles have been feeding on a big dead fish somewhere in the pond. I have some scales & I am wondering who died?
This is the time of year I see one or two dead large GSD.
