Good ole Baw from down south Mississippi here. Trying to manage a 13 acre lake.

1. Lots of rain every week - 4.5 inches in rain gauge over past 8 days.
2. Good bloom on lake. Biologist was satisfied 4 weeks ago.
3. 4 fish feeders that feed 3-4 seconds at a time - 3 times a day.
4. Fertilized 1 time this year in May, applied 30% of recommended rate, bloom in 5 days all over lake.
5. 12 inch visibility on Secchi Disk. Yikes.
6. Smart weed grows all around the bank, and extends roughly 3 feet out.
7. Self diagnosed Euglena problem - red tint, bubbles on surface, in surface mats.
8. No aeration - 50% of lake is less than 6 feet deep - other 50% is 8-9 feet deep.

I don't like my water quality I think. The Euglena has left bubbles and white tinted scum on the lake surface. Red veins in the lake are obvious but not thick. - It covers roughly 30% of surface and travels with the wind. After the most recent rain, it appears to be worse. It is almost like it traps bubbles on surface from the rain if that makes sense.

At daylight this morning, there was pretty good fish activity. I caught 6 LMB, and was a bit surprised by their activity level. Usually they come off as lethargic in the deep summer, but these were anything but lethargic, and they looked very healthy.

I am considering surface aeration, but I don't have a clue what I am doing. I find myself wondering is that totally necessary with all the smart weed in the lake producing oxygen. Is that a better route than reducing nutrients in some way? Relative weight of LMB is typically 105-115% with the occasional fish at 90%. I would like water to be a little clearer and not such a dense bloom. I have a hard time believing that my 1 fertilizer application in May has led to this heavy of a bloom. I did not build the lake, but the fine gentleman that did, had the original soil tested and lake bed limed at appropriate level.

Should I feed less? It all gets consumed. Looks like a herd or piranhas when it goes off.

With visibility at 12" I don't know if I'd fertilize at all. What was the clarity before the fertilization and what is your alkalinity?

Smartweed doesn't put much if any O2 in the pond. Are there any other underwater plants in the pond?

There are no underwater plants. I don't have any plans or desire to fertilize - too nervous. I don't know alkalinity. I am ordering a water testing kit this week.

Any idea if the stuff in the white bucket is harmful? I skimmed that stuff off the top of the lake where you see all the bubbles and white stuff in the other pictures. I brought it home and put it in a jar full of lake water. On the lake it is floating. In the jar it has all settled to the bottom which I thought odd.

White/clear stuff is most likely expelled protoplasm from dead plankton cells where you have a highly productive pond (thick heavy bloom). Pic red plankton (likely euglena) bloom.
