Hello everyone,

This morning I walked outside by the porch I've been working on and found a snake skin that about 5'6ft. I've been in southern Ohio a long time and live on a hill so I can't imagine it's water snake, it hasn't rained here in months and the pond is way over on the other side of the property. Any idea what might be out there, I'm just in between Marietta and Cambridge and sort of worried about the kids and dogs.

Any suggestions welcome!

Escaped pet python? That is huge for any northern snakes. Probably the largest I have seen was a black rat snake, aka Eastern Rat Snake, it was about 5’ long. Supposedly they can get up to 6’!

Mostly harmless unless you are a rodent.

This area is all farms, so python isn't in the expense account for anyone I know, the nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile and he owns the next 83 acres.

I agree with liquidsquid, appears to be a harmless rat snake. Ohio has varieties that grow to 8'
