Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Why is this Duck doing this ?

Started about 10 days ago - shows up in the AM and stays about an hour. Goes around in a circle with its head down usually in the same area in the pond. In 20 years have never seen this kind of behavior. So what is this all about ?

Forgive the poor video - foggy day and shot thru the window as it would stop this behavior if I stepped out on the porch to film.

And.................. no, that is not a real heron in the foreground.

Looks like it is feeding on something it prefers in that area of the pond.

Have seen that before. Rounding up and eating some small items in the water.

Maybe the sight of that blue heron triggers him!

Shes not trying to lure babies from the nest is she??

If the nest is too shallow, a duck will certainly eat the eggs. They love fish and amphibian eggs.
